Navigation license
Permissions
The navigation license allows you to operate jet skis and recreational boats up to 6 meters in length, with an engine power suitable to their specifications, according to the manufacturer. It authorizes daytime navigation only, and as long as you do not go more than 2 nautical miles in any direction from a port, marina, or safe harbor.
Requirements
Obtaining the Navigation License is subject to various requirements, such as being at least 16 years old and passing a psychotechnical evaluation. Training involves completing a 6-hour course, of which 2 hours are theoretical and 4 hours are practical, focusing on basic safety and navigation principles.
Validity
The issuance and validity of the Navigation License is tied to a medical certificate, which is valid for 10 years, or 5 years for those over 70. Once expired, renewing the license is as simple as presenting a recent medical certificate.
How to renew an expired navigation license?
The required documentation to renew an expired navigation license is:
-
Copy of DNI, passport or residence card.
-
Proof of payment for form 046 (navigation tax, which varies by region).
-
Medical certificate.
-
Renewal request form.
-
Original maritime license card.
It is recommended to apply for renewal before the license expires, as once it does, the fees payable will be those of a new issue, not a renewal.
